Interesting Matthew. To compare this to music creators, an industry I work in: to earn an equivalent amount of money from streaming, and assuming you wrote all your own music and had an average deal with a Major Label, you would have to have your music streamed between 100 and 150 million times to earn an equivalent amount. This would put you into the area of a mid-sized current global artist, say like Wet Leg. Or looking at older music: the amount of streams the Rolling Stones had on their 2023 album. The biggest artist in 2023 was Taylor Swift who had 30 billion streams.
Of course music creators also have live work and other incomes from their music being used on Tik Tok, You Tube, films and TV so it is not a direct comparison. Still, interesting to compare.
An interesting comparison for sure! Without being too big-headed, I would guess that this amount of income probably puts me in a higher percentile of earners in game design than the equivalent income in music - just fewer folks making a living from game design than music I would guess. Of course, I hope that number goes up in the future!
